Impacts of the ACA on Patient Data

The Affordable Care Act has had a far reaching impact on the US healthcare system.  Not only has it changed how individuals purchase health insurance, but it has also brought millions more people into the fold.  While its intent is to improve the quality and affordability of patient care, most healthcare professionals believe the ACA has made patient data more vulnerable.  Patients now face an increased risk of having their privacy breached through insecure websites, databases, exchanges and inadequate assessment practices.  Join Larry Ponemon from the Ponemon Institute and Rick Kam of ID Experts outline the risks stemming from the ACA and effective strategies that organizations can implement to minimize their impact.

Dr. Ponemon will share highlights from the 4th Annual Benchmark Study on Patient Privacy and Data Security which asked healthcare organizations about their experience with data breaches, emerging threat vectors, usage of new technologies and data protection measures.  Rick Kam, Co-Founder and President at ID Experts will share practical actions organizations can take to manage their data breach risks and maintain the privacy and security of patient data.

Attendees will Learn:

  • Data security issues due to implementation of the ACA including electronic health records and participation in health information exchanges
  • Privacy vulnerabilities based on inconsistent incident assessment processes and approaches
  • Impacts on your privacy and security strategies based on the growth on malicious cyber intrusions leading to breaches

Presenters:
